Frequently Asked Questions
Can I come to class if my baby has just been vaccinated?
Please do not attend a baby massage class if your baby has been vaccinated with 48 hours of your class. It is a very traumatic time for your baby and they usually need much more reassurance then usual. It is not possible to massage your baby in the area of their vaccinations.
What do I need to bring with me?
Developmental Baby Massage – For newborn classes you will require a blanket for the baby and comfortable clothing for yourself. For stage two courses you will need to bring safe and suitable massage oil and a towel and blanket. During booking you will receive information about which oils to use.
Soft Gymnastics Play – you are required to bring a blanket for your baby and comfortable clothing for yourself.
What should I do if my baby cries or becomes distressed?
Crying is normal and you should comfort your baby in your own way, crying is your baby’s way of communicating with you. All of our classes are relaxed, friendly and there to support you. You can continue when you and your baby are ready and with baby massage you can continue at home with the techniques you will be taught throughout the course.
What if I need to change my baby's nappy during a class?
You are welcome in any of our classes to take the time you need to meet the needs of your baby as you would normally.
Can my partner attend baby massage?
Yes partner’s are welcome to come along to our baby massage and soft gymnastics courses. Only one mat will be provided for the baby massage class for each baby, so you could take turns in practising the techniques taught.
Can I feed my baby during class?
You are absolutely welcome to feed your baby, I recommend you give your baby, a full feed no less then 30 mins before the baby massage class. If you need to feed your baby during the workshop, if able try to give half a feed. The baby massage in conjunction with a full tummy will likely make your baby uncomfortable. All babies need to be happy and comfortable during the massage/touch section, however once this section is complete then a further feed will be fine. Both breastfeeding and bottle feeding are very welcome our classes.
Can I attend baby massage if I have had a c-section?
Firstly, you will need to know your own limitations and be prepared to inform the teacher if you have had a c-section especially if it’s within the last 6 weeks. That been said you are very welcome onto a baby massage class, and I can arrange a home visit for a one off cost of £20 if you are unable to leave your home, until you are able to get to class (date to be negotiated).
Please email me if there are any health concerns or birth difficulties. This is to ensure you are on the correct course and can partake with the class.
